Reviewing new designs as part of the development process is difficult but vitally important. How do you ensure you make good design decisions?
It’s not easy to critique and ultimately pick winning designs whether it’s a new logo, website design, packaging or marketing literature. We have to admit that even with many years of experience, immersed in all aspects of design, constantly discussing design briefs and creating new designs, it can still be really tricky. Yet it is a crucial part of the development process requiring accurate, honest assessment.

In the past week or so some notable new company logos – Microsoft, eBay and USA Today – have been launched in quick succession. They each say something important about the current design thinking of big corporations and the value they place on their business’s identity.
Here we consider the new one from Microsoft but we’ll also review the others in due course.
